After our latest & monster FOTH post, here's our shortest comp ever! Prep-rock: This term was popularized via an article in the Breakthrough fanzine in 1984, where the field of "prep-rock" was given its first overview. This is music recorded by students at the private "prep" boarding schools found across the USA, especially in the Northeast. A remarkable number of prep school bands had albums released in the 1960s, the rich kids aspect making financing a minor problem. Dominated by cover versions, the albums seldom show much energy or originality, but are still enjoyable due to their period charm and atmosphere. The most classic prep-rock LP of all is the RISING STORM from the Philips Academy in Andover, MA. Despite the "Rich Kid" factor, you will still find this little collection a very interesting surprise… I did!Jump back to '65 here.
